Homemade Baby Wipes

I've been making these since my kids were infants, my oldest is 19! They sure do save you some money in the long run! I used them for Everything, hand wiping, face wiping, and butt wiping. They came in handy in the car lots of times. I had a big ole Rubbermaid container that a half a roll of paper towels fit perfect in. I even had a wipe warmer, cause lets face it those suckers can be cold!
My "recipe" is a little different that what I have  seen, I add a little alcohol to help preserve them longer (I don't seem to go through them as fast now days) and it never seemed to burn their little bottoms :)
**Just a note of caution, these baby wipes are NOT suppose to be flushed!! Especially if you have a septic system! Bounty Paper Towels (or any other  brand of paper towels for that matter) don't break down fast enough and it will clog your pipes, so please Don't flush!!!!...!

What you will need:
1. Measuring cup
2. Sharp Serrated Knife (long enough to cut through the paper towels)
3. Cutting Board
4. 3 or 4 Qt Container (round or square)
5. Roll of Bounty Paper Towels (some prefer select-a-size, but I like the  regular ones for these, but its your call which ones you would prefer)
6. 2 Tbls. Baby Shampoo or Baby Wash (generic is fine)
7. 2 Tbls. Baby Oil
8. 1 Tbls. Alcohol  (optional)
91 1/2 to 2 cups Water

Cut Paper towels in half.

Put one half of the paper towels in the container.

Mix the water, oil, shampoo, and alcohol in the measuring cup, and gently stir as to not make it bubble up to much.
Slowly pour on and all around the paper towel, make sure to get the cardboard part a little bit too. Don't worry about the cardboard it will come out easily once its wet.

Cover and let it sit about 5 minutes then flip the paper towels over and wait another 5 minutes. The card board should come out at this time. Pull the center paper towel out a little and your all set. :)

If you need some for the diaper bag, take some out and put then in your travel size container, or simply put them in a Ziplock bag.

I still have my container from way back when, but I saw some containers at Walmart that would work, they are the "Mainstays Home" 4 Qt Square container, I'm thinking they were around 3.00 for a 2 pack.
I still use these, except they are "adult" wipes now, and I sure wish I still had the wipe warmer, our wipes live on the marble bathroom floor and they are Not! warm. ;)

Update! 9-27-12

I have tried the "Viva" brand paper towel on these wipes, its so much more like cloth! So soft!!
You may have to use just a little bit more water. I have made two batches and on the 1st one I had to add a little over 2 cups of water, on the 2nd batch it was good right at 2 cups. So just be aware that you may have to add a little more if they don't feel wet enough, or if some of the paper towels don't look wet.

Cousin Teresa's Crock Pot Cabbage Soup

We like to try new recipes, that are easy! Lets face it the same ole' thing every week gets boring..so when my cousin posted on Facebook that she was making some Cabbage Soup, it sounded really good, and real easy!! So I got the recipe from her, and gave it a whirl .... we weren't disappointed!  Yum!!

Here is what you need:
1Cabbage
2. Celery
3. Carrots
4. Onion
5. Red Potatoes
6. Chicken Broth
7. Seasonings consisting of: Beau Monde Seasoning, Salt, Pepper, Garlic Salt, Celery Seed, Onion Powder
8. **  see below
Chop everything up...
Put it all in your crock pot...
Add the seasonings....
(pretty much to your taste) I just kind of winged it on amounts, and it was fine.I just added a "little more" at a time.

Don't worry if you cant find the Beau Monde Seasoning, just add some extra celery seed, salt and onion powder, thats pretty much all it is..

Cover the whole thing with Chicken Broth, (I used 3 lg. 32oz boxes of chicken broth) I have a large crock pot! Cook on low for about 8 hours or on high for 4-6 hours or until the cabbage and veggies are soft.

And the end result...Yum ~  Thank You Teresa!
Serve with some good sopping bread ( I was thinking some nice Italian Bread, but my little close by grocery doesn't have a fresh bakery!? So I had to go with what they had, French Bread...that was good too, but...wanted Italian) The funny thing was I never realized that they didn't have a bakery, granted I've only lived in this town for about 4 months...

**I added 3 strips of bacon for some extra flavor...
I was trying to think of another meat that would be good in there, besides corned beef :)

Any suggestions?

Spot & Stain Remover!

All I can say is WOW! This stuff works ! I have tried a lot of stain sticks and it seems that nothing ever gets the stains  ALL the way out, especially blood
I tried this yesterday on a stain that I thought would not come out, because this particular one, Never comes out! But I was shocked, amazed, you could see it just bubbling away... I can't wait to try this on other stains.
I have a pair of jeans  that I have a stain on and I have used all sorts of things to get this out, I'm going to try this, I mean what the heck, whats the worst that can happen? The stain could come out right? Hopefully!!

You will need:
1 part Dawn Dish Detergent
2 parts Peroxide

I would just mix up enough for your stain, as the peroxide should be fresh when you use it, it would lose its bubbling power the longer it sits...

If you need some more scrubbing power, you could add some Baking Soda

Burt's Bees Product Review

I have naturally wavy, coarse hair, that gets incredibly frizzy in the humid south, whether its from rain or just the hot humid days of summer, I hated it! I always had to use some sort of gel, just to keep the frizzy's away. As long as I can remember, I have never felt my hair as being soft  but lately for the last several months ( late last summer to be exact, when my daughter straightened my hair with her flat iron, and I liked it! ) I had straight Hair!!  I wanted to find something to protect my hair from the damaging heat of the flat iron... I was browsing the internet and saw a article on curly hair and how Bert's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo and Condition was so good for curly hair (probably straight hair also) It got rave reviews. I read that because they use natural ingredients, it wouldn't get sudsy (I didn't think I'd like that part of it, I like lather, makes me feel like its getting clean.)  So I went out and bought some, and  I LOVE IT!! ♥ Smells great! My hair is actually soft! The grapefruit oil in it has oil dissolving property's that makes it perfect for cleansing your hair, not only that but it is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Free (look on your shampoo label to see if that is a ingredient) that is what is used to produce the lather...guess what, its also found in Dish Detergent and get this tooth paste! (just a side note, if you tend to get canker sores in your mouth, you might try a tooth paste without SLS, because it can cause you to get them more often) SLS  also dry's your hair out, so you might as well just wash your hair with dish detergent
I took care of my problem with the lather, I just wash twice. :)  This is a product you will have to get used to, as far as the lather and such, but I'm pretty sure you will love it. My husband can't keep his hands out of my hair, heck I can't keep my hands out of it, I love running my fingers through it, no tangles and Sooo soft!!

I've also been using One 'n Only Argan Oil that I love, but that is a whole other review in itself !

I'm going to try  the Color Keeper Green Tea & Fennel Seed Shampoo and Conditioner next time, to see how that works.

12-27-12 So sad they don't make this Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo & Conditioner  any longer :(( It was my favorite Shampoo & Conditioner. Why,why why?? do companies always do that??

Homemade Tub, Sink & Shower Cleaner

*Revision 6-5-2012 posted below

I tried this Tub Sink & Shower Cleaner and it works great! Granted my glass shower doors weren't terrible, but they did have a little soap scum build up on them. I'm real bad about waiting for stuff to work, so I had to do it twice because I didn't let it sit long enough to do its job the first time!  You can leave this on over night, if its a bad case of build up.
I also did my sinks, it works well, they were nice an shiny. I have heard that you might not want to use this on your granite and let it sit for long periods of time as it will eventually eat away at it.But I used it on my marble counter and it was fine, but I didn't let it sit for long.
Anyways... try it, your like it :)

One note some people don't like the smell, I don't mind it, but if your in a small place just make sure its well ventilated. You can always add a few drops of essential oil if you prefer.
I've seen this recipe calling for 12oz of Dawn but I think that is way to much! Could you imagine all the bubbles? Mine worked fine with 3-4oz. I have plans for more Dawn Recipes, so I don't want to waste any!

Here is what you will need:

12 oz. of White Vinegar
3-4 oz of Blue Dawn Dish Detergent (I used the Ultra Concentrated Original Scented Dawn)
1 empty Squirt Bottle
that's it!

1.Heat the Vinegar in the microwave until hot (30- 45 seconds)
2. Add the Dawn Dish Detergent, put the sprayer lid on and swish it around. Don't shake it or it will bubble up to much!
3. Spray on and wait at least a hour .... scrub and rinse (remember you can leave this on over night for tuff jobs) Don't be impatient like me, and take it off to soon, you'll just have to work harder and use more!

Here you have a powerful cleaner that gets rid of soap scum and build up! And its green too! Works just as good as scrubbing bubbles I used to use!

* Revised 6-5-12
After I got done spraying all the sinks and the showers I went back and sprinkled some baking soda on the shower floor and the sinks etc....all I can say is Wow! That worked really well!! Its so sparkly ans shiny :)

Crock Pot Chicken and Dumplings

So I tried a new recipe last night, it turned out pretty good if I do say so myself :)
My husband liked it, and he is super pick about food! But I'm getting him to try, and like more and more things. I had to omit a few things from the original recipe to adapt to his dislikes....
You can double/triple this, as this recipe is good for 2-3 people.

You will need the following ingredients:

* 2 Large Chicken Breasts (or you can substitute with your choice of chicken) ( thighs, legs breasts,or a combo of these) ..personally I like the bone-in chicken because I feel it gives it more flavor cooking with the bone)
* 2 tablespoons Butter
* 2 cans Cream of Chicken Soup
* 1 can Chicken Broth
* 1 Onion diced (I omitted this, and used Onion Powder)
* 1 tablespoon dried Parsley
* 4 Grands Flaky Refrigerator Biscuits ( I used 6 biscuits instead )
* You may also add any veggies that you like
* I also added some Garlic Salt, Salt and Pepper (optional)

1. Place Chicken in crock pot, add the Butter, Cream of Chicken Soup, Chicken Broth, Onions, Parsley. Cook this on high for 4 -6 hours
2. After cooking time has elapsed, break up chicken parts (if its bone-in,its easier to take the chicken out and break it up on a plate) Once that is done,
3. Cut up the biscuits into bite size pieces (they will expand!) I cut mine up into 9 pieces, add biscuits to crock pot...continue to cook for 30 minutes or until dough is cooked through.(you might have to test one!)
Also you may have to add some more Chicken Broth, so its good to have a extra can or two on hand.
Serve hot! and enjoy!
Served with you favorite veggie

There comes a time in our life where we just have to do something different. This is that time. I want to do something creative with my time on the computer. I love being creative and seeing the end result. Whether its in the kitchen, or decorating, painting the walls in my home, or even the crafts.I like to do different things.
I have some things that I have tried, or want to try that I'd like to share with you. Some will be my ideas, but some will be other peoples, and I will give credit, where its deserved!
