I wanted to get the clear Elmer's Glue but our local Dollar Store didn't carry it. I think the clear looks more like Flubber than the white glue, but you just have to work with what you have! Also I wouldn't substitute Elmer's for the store's brand, it just works out better, it must be a texture thing. ;)
Here is what you need:
1. 1 1/2 Cup of Warm water, divided
2. 1 Teaspoon of Borax
3. 1 Bottle (4 oz.) Elmer's Glue
4. Food Coloring
Measure precisely and Mix well, for best results!!
I used a whisk to mix
Mix Borax Mixture and Glue Mixture together and You will see the chemical reaction right away!
Take the whisk out and mix with your hands.
Keep Mixing, Have Fun!!
The more you play with it the firmer it will get
This is a fun project to do with the kids.
Store in a Ziplock bag or air tight container and the slime will keep for two weeks.

DeleteWhen I had my husband take the last picture, it was "melting" and some did drop on the carpet but it came up easily! Borax is used for laundry and cleaning,and Elmer's is soap and water clean up,the only thing you might have to worry about is the food coloring...you can always skip that part. Clear Flubber would be cool made with the clear glue!! :)

ReplyDeleteYou could try it, it wouldn't hurt trying(there isn't a huge expense if it doesn't work)...I guess I would compare ingredients though.

I don't know if its just lasting an unusually long time or I just got lucky!? When people come over they are like "what is this" and end up playing with it lol, so it has entertained a few :D

I used warm water almost hot & mine didn't come out right & I stirred & stirred..maybe b/c I used washable glue? Mine just came out strinngy :(

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry yours didn't work! :( I know this recipe has to be pretty exact on the measurements, I'm not really sure if it was because it was washable glue, I checked the label on mine and it also says washable. Good thing this is a inexpensive project! Try again with a different brand of glue maybe?
I really wanted to make the Flubber with the Elmer's Clear glue, but my local store didn't have it,so I just bought the white.

ReplyDeletePretty sure it would be,I think Borax is around 3 something at Walmart and glue isn't that much either...most people have food coloring on hand, but it doesn't NEED it, it just looks better :) Have fun!
