Homemade Flubber!!!

This one is for the kids... we all have some of that in all of us, right? You just might find yourself playing with this stuff too! ;) Its squishable, gooey, and just plain fun to play with!
I wanted to get the clear Elmer's Glue but our local Dollar Store didn't carry it.   I think the clear looks more like Flubber than the white glue, but you just have to work with what you have! Also I wouldn't substitute Elmer's for the store's brand, it just works out better, it must be a texture thing. ;)

Here is what you need:
1. 1 1/2 Cup of Warm water, divided
2. 1 Teaspoon of Borax
3. 1 Bottle (4 oz.) Elmer's Glue
4. Food Coloring
Measure precisely and Mix well, for best results!!

1/2 Cup of Warm Water and 1 Teaspoon of Borax. Mix together and dissolve the Borax.

1 Cup of Warm Water, Food Coloring, and 4oz. of Elmer's Glue. Mix together so glue is Dissolved in the water.

I used a whisk to mix

Mix Borax Mixture and Glue Mixture together and You will see the chemical reaction right away!

Take the whisk out and mix with your hands.

Keep Mixing, Have Fun!!

Play at a table. This stuff "melts!"

The more you play with it the firmer it will get
This is a fun project to do with the kids.
Store in a Ziplock bag or air tight container and the slime will keep for two weeks.
6-13-2012 Just a fyi I still have mine and it hasn't gone bad

** This is NOT edible !! Please Take Care
Have Fun!

    1. Not really, just make the kids play at a table, that way it won't get all over.
When I had my husband take the last picture, it was "melting" and some did drop on the carpet but it came up easily! Borax is used for laundry and cleaning, and Elmer's is soap and water clean up,the only thing you might have to worry about is the food coloring...you can always skip that part. Clear Flubber would be cool made with the clear glue!! :)

    1. Huh? I'm sorry! :(
Did you use warm water? You really have to use warm water and stir good to mix it.

  4. I wonder if it has to be ELmer's glue or if I can use a store brand?

  5. You could try it, it wouldn't hurt trying(there isn't a huge expense if it doesn't work)...I guess I would compare ingredients though.

  8. life saver you are!! I was literally at the store with my daughter yesterday and she wanted this so bad and I had to give her the 'no I will not waste my money (again) with something you'll play with for a few days then throw away!!!' I told her we'll find a way to ''make it'' and I randomly stumble on this via pinterest! Thank you!

    1. Hi Zaz2715
I'm sorry, I don't :( its a chemical reaction between the water/glue and borax. Maybe one of my readers might know of something?
Could you possibly order it online? from amazon.com?
Sorry I couldn't be of much help!

  11. Hi Ashley,
I'm sorry yours didn't work! :( I know this recipe has to be pretty exact on the measurements, I'm not really sure if it was because it was washable glue, I checked the label on mine and it also says washable. Good thing this is a inexpensive project! Try again with a different brand of glue maybe?
I really wanted to make the Flubber with the Elmer's Clear glue, but my local store didn't have it,so I just bought the white.
Let me know if you try it again, how it worked out the second time around! Good Luck!!

    1. Pretty sure it would be,I think Borax is around 3 something at Walmart and glue isn't that much either...most people have food coloring on hand, but it doesn't NEED it, it just looks better :) Have fun!

    1. I wouldn't eat it but it should be fine to play with. It would definitely require supervision!!

    1. By one of the pictures up there ^^ it makes about 1 1/2 cups? I know it was larger than a softball. I bet two girls could split a batch.
